Objectives & Challenges

/ Project Overview

This project is considered one of the important operational projects that contribute to improving the efficiency of wastewater treatment systems. The work included cleaning primary treatment tanks inside Hitt Station, where these tanks play a key role in separating solids before biological treatment stages.

The project aimed to remove accumulated deposits that affect operational efficiency and raise tank readiness to ensure the continuity of operational processes inside the station without obstacles.

Scope of Work

The scope of work in this project included:

  • Removing accumulated sludge inside primary treatment tanks
  • Complete cleaning of tanks from sludge and sediment
  • Extracting solid waste using specialized equipment
  • Cleaning tank surfaces and side walls
  • Rehabilitating tanks to improve operational efficiency
  • Executing works without affecting station continuity

/ Project Challenges

The project faced a number of important operational challenges, most notably:

  • Working inside enclosed tanks (Confined Spaces)
  • Handling large quantities of sludge over a long period
  • Sensitive operational environment requiring high precision
  • Carrying out works without affecting the Permit to Work system
  • Possibility of hazardous gases inside tanks

Project Execution and Treatment Methodology

The project was implemented according to a precise operational methodology to achieve the highest levels of quality and efficiency, which included:

  • Conducting a comprehensive field inspection and risk assessment
  • Preparing an integrated work plan suitable for site conditions
  • Preparing and securing the site according to safety requirements
  • Carrying out extraction and cleaning works using specialized equipment
  • Applying the Permit to Work (PTW) system during all execution stages
  • Continuous follow-up to ensure work quality and required results

Safety and Risk Management

The project was carried out according to the highest professional safety standards, including:

  • Applying the Confined Space Entry system
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Continuous monitoring of gases inside tanks
  • Providing suitable ventilation systems
  • Preparing a complete emergency response plan
  • Full compliance with the Permit to Work system
